Chromatin Dynamics in Cancer Cells, Cancer Research Programme, IMIM (Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute)
Short biography & abstract
Sandra Peiró obtained her PhD for work on caveolae and TrkA signalling carried out with Carles Enrich and Nati Rocamora at the Facultat de Medicina (UB) in 2001. After a first postdoc at the UPF-IMIM with Pilar Navarro and Paco Real, she started a second postdoc in 2004 at the IMIM with Antonio García de Herreros working in the Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition (EMT) field. The EMT is a process by which tumour epithelial cells acquire invasive and migratory characteristics. In 2014 she was appointed head of Chromatin dynamics in cancer cells group at FIMIM. Her current research focuses on chromatin dynamics during EMT, how chromatin and heterochromatin changes during this process and the role of different histone modifications and histone modifying enzymes, among others. Her talk will summarize recent work from the group on EMT and chromatin reorganization.
