How transcriptional enhancers solve the Hox specificity paradox and the evolution of Drosophila courtship song

Scientific sessions, PRBB CRG Conferences

David L. Stern

Howard Hughes Medical Institute-Janelia Farm. Ashburn, USA

David Stern, from the HHMI-Janelia Farm, USA, aims to identify the genes and, ultimately, the individual nucleotides that have generated phenotypic diversity, in order to better understand how developmental mechanisms influence evolution. He uses fine-scale genetic analysis on a group of closely related species in the Drosophila melanogaster species group, since they show enormous morphological, physiological, behavioral and ecological diversity. During this talk Stern will discuss hox gene regulation and the evolution of Drosophila courtship song.

He has been invited by Matthieu Louis (CRG).
