Multicellular Systems Biology Group, Systems Biology Programme, CRG

Short biography

James Sharpe is the coordinator of the EMBL/CRG Systems Biology Research Unit and head of the Multicellular Systems Biology group, whose aim is to bring together an interdisciplinary team of scientists to focus on the research of a particular complex system – the development of the vertebrate limb. The group aims to understand it both at the level of gene regulatory networks, and at the level of the physical interactions between cells and tissues. James Sharpe also holds an ICREA Research Professor position since 2006. He graduated in Pure & Applied Biology in Oxford University in 1988 and got his PhD at the Institute for Medical Research Mill Hill London in 1992. After a postdoc at the University of Santiago in Chile he moved to Edinburgh at the MRC Human Genetics Unit. In 2006 he was hired by the CRG as senior Group Leader, in 2011 he became the acting coordinator of the Systems Biology program and coordinator after the program SAB evaluation in 2014.
