The nuclear pore complex: Nucleocytoplasmic transport and beyond

Scientific sessions, PRBB CRG Conferences

Karsten Weis

Institut of Biochemistry, Department of Biology, ETH Zürich. Zürich, Switzerland

Karsten Weis, from the Institute of Biochemistry, ETH Zurich, Switzerland, is interested in nuclear organization, intracellular transport between the nucleus and the cytoplasm, nuclear pore structure and function and mRNA transport and degradation. He focuses on the nuclear pore complex function and assembly and the mRNA directional transport across the nuclear pore complex. He aims to understand how the regulation of mRNA degradation contributes to the regulation of gene expression and how does the three-dimensional organization of the genome affect gene expression. He is also interested in the roles of the GTPase Ran in interphase and mitosis.

He has been invited by Manuel Mendoza (CRG).
