Francisco Mojica, from University of Alicante in Spain, is a microbiologist interested in deciphering how bacteria acquire immunity against their pathogens. He has made seminal contributions to our current understanding of the immune system of bacteria such as the discovery of CRISPR, currently the most promising tool for genetic manipulation. His most recent research has lead to the identification of an anti-CRISPR system in bacteria.

He has been invited by Robert Castelo (UPF).
