Carlos Dotti, from the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, in Madrid, Spain, and the VIB Center for the Biology of Disease in Leuven, Belgium, focuses in the study of the aging process in brain. He has demonstrated that the earliest change in the brain of mature individuals affects the content of plasma membrane lipids due to the metabolic stress in excitatory neurotransmission. Currently he is addressing the identification of genes and mechanisms that could improve plasticity in the old without interfering with survival strength. He is also studying the determination of the effects of early life experiences in the late life brain. He has been invited by Paco Muñoz (UPF).
