Center for Theoretical Biological Physics. Departments of Physics and Astronomy, Chemistry, and Biosciences, Rice University. Houston, USA
José Nelson Onuchic, from Rice University in Houston, US, works on modeling biochemical and biological systems. His research has expanded across the scales of molecular-level interactions to cellular systems and multi-cellular structures. In protein folding, he introduced the concept of protein folding funnels. He also works on the theory of chemical reactions in condensed matter, with emphasis on biological electron transfer. He is interested in stochastic effects in gene networks with connections to bacterial decision-making and cancer. Currently his group is also focusing on chromatin folding and function. He has been invited by Jordi Garcia-Ojalvo (UPF).
