Sergei Nedospasov, from the Engelhardt Institute of Molecular Biology, and the A.N.Belozersky Institute of Physico-Chemical Biology in Moscow State University, Russia, is an HHMI International Research Scholar. He uses a mouse model to study the effects of a continuous blockade of tumor necrosis factor, a key factor in innate immunity. Similar blockades occur in patients with rheumatoid arthritis during treatment. He hopes to define the parameters of the weakening of the host's defense, which could be useful in developing more effective therapeutic strategies. He has been invited by James Sharpe (CRG).
