Networks of alternative splicing regulation in cancer

Scientific sessions, CRG Group Leader Seminars

Juan Valcárcel

Gene Regulation, Stem Cells and Cancer Programme, CRG

Juan Valcárcel obtained his Phd for work on influenza virus gene regulation carried out with Juan Ortín at the Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa (Madrid). After a postdoc with Michael Green at the University of Massachusetts (Worcester) he started his independent group at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (Heidelberg) in 1996. The group moved to the CRG in 2002. The focus of the group's research is the process of pre-mRNA splicing and its regulation.

The talk will present an overview of projects addressing the impact of alternative splicing in cancer progression, including the identification of key splicing events in the regulation of cell proliferation and of the networks of regulatory factors that control them.
