"Molecular determinants of skeletal muscle mass". What we think we know, what we know, what we need to know

Scientific sessions, PRBB CRG Conferences

Gustavo Nader

Cellular Growth Control Lab, Dept. of Physiology & Pharmacology, Karolinska Institute. Stockholm, Sweden

Nader, from the Department. of Physiology and Pharmacology at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, aims to understand cellular growth control, specifically the regulation of cell size, a key determinant of physiological function. He focuses on two main areas of research: skeletal and cardiac muscle size control, and how RNA Pol I is modulated during skeletal and cardiac muscle hypertrophy; and gene regulation and network dynamics, using a genomics-based "top-down" approach for the identification of novel key molecular mechanisms involved in skeletal and cardiac muscle size control. He uses both human interventions and animal models with well-defined physiological phenotypes. He has been invited by Esther Barreiro (IMIM).
