European Molecular Biology Laboratory. Heidelberg, Germany
Eric Karsenti, from the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) in Heidelberg, Germany, has had a long interest in the assembly of the mitotic spindle in eukaryotic cells, studying the biochemical composition of the signalling pathway that drives the process, as well as the physico-chemical processes associated with it. He grew interested in other self-organisation events in biology and has done a couple of expeditions around the world to study plankton ecosystems. He has been invited by Tommaso Cavazza (CRG) in behalf of the PhD students at the CRG.
