Xavier Basagaña is a statistician working in Environmental Epidemiology. After 5 years working at IMIM, he moved to the US where he obtained a PhD in Biostatistics at Harvard University. In 2008 he joined CREAL as junior researcher, where he is currently conducting research on statistical methods and on the health effects of air pollution and extreme temperatures.
Summary of the talk
His talk will summarize recent results on the association between exposure to extremely hot temperatures and mortality in Catalunya, including detailed analyses by cause of death, analyses of the spatial distribution of heat vulnerability and its potential determinants, and projections of future effects owing to global warming.
