Membrane protein biogenesis and quality control

Scientific sessions, PRBB CRG Conferences

Ramanujan Hegde, from the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK, aims at defining the various pathways for membrane protein biosynthesis at the molecular level. His main questions include how the proteins that form the membrane-bound organelles are selectively targeted to their correct destinations, and how they are inserted, folded, and assembled properly into the lipid bilayer. He is also interested in the quality control pathways, or how cells cope with protein sorting, insertion, or folding failure. He has been invited by Pedro Carvalho (CRG).
