Translational control of cancer and autism

Scientific sessions, PRBB CRG Conferences

Nahum Sonenberg

Department of Biochemistry, McGill University. Montreal, Canada

Nahum Sonenberg, from the Department of Biochemistry at the McGill University in Montreal, Canada, is interested in the control of protein synthesis and its importance in diseases. He is particularly focused on the role of the mRNA 5’-cap binding protein, eIF4E, which he discovered. He studies the translational control of cancer, the use of viruses as anti-cancer drugs, the mechanism of miRNA action in translation and mRNA decay, and the control of neuronal translation in plasticity, learning and memory. He has been invited by Fátima Gebauer (CRG).
