Fyodor Kondrashov is a Junior Group Leader in Evolutionary Genomics at the Centre for Genomic Regulation. He began his research career at the National Centre for Biotechnology Information at NIH, and he was a graduate student at the Ecology and Evolutionary Biology department in UCSD, both in the US.
In the recent past there have been many controversial claims on the propensity of epistatic interactions in long-term evolution. However, claims were mostly qualitative and lacked a formal modeling approach. In this talk I will present a formal model of epistasis in molecular evolution that is based on a simple concept which we termed a fitness matrix. Time permitting I will talk about our recent data on the quantification of epistatic interactions among alleles segregating in the human population.
