The fourteenth edition of the Esteve Foundation Research Award, which is given every two years with a prize of 18,000 Euros, has been awarded to two works in Pharmacology, one of them corresponding to an investigation from the Neuropharmacology Lab (NeuroPhar) of the Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS). The research was focused on the Fragile X Syndrome (SXF), and it was published in the journal Nature Medicine in 2013.
The SXF is the most common inherited cause of intellectual disability and autism, and it was the subject of the PhD thesis of Arnau Busquets, in that time PhD student at the NeuroPhar Lab led by Rafael Maldonado . Busquets defended on July, 4 th, 2013 the thesis titled: "Targeting the endocannabinoid system for therapeutic purposes" which was led by the Professors Rafael Maldonado and Andrés Ozaitia.
The members of the NeuroPhar Lab have obtained for the second time the prize, which will be awarded next June, 23 rd at 13h at the Faculty of Veterinary of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with the presence of the two awarded authors and the directors of their respective centers.
