The Jury of the Award for Biomedical Research of the Banco Sabadell Foundation has recognized the biologist Núria López-Bigas as the winner of the 2016 prize, endowed with 50,000 euros. In this eleventh edition there have been a total of 53 candidates with profiles of basic research, clinical and epidemiological. The jury decided to give this prize to Núria López-Bigas, leader of the research group Biomedical Genomics from UPF, for her contribution to the development of new bioinformatics methods to study cancer genomes. His work opens up new avenues for the classification of cancer patients according to their tumors carry mutations and thus advance the implementation of the most appropriate individualized for each patient therapies.

The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday, July 12 at the headquarters of Banco Sabadell in Sant Cugat del Valles (Barcelona) and will bring together leading representatives from the scientific community. The meeting will be attended by the winner, some of the winners in other editions, jury members, institutional representatives, medical community, research centers, universities across Spain and investors interested in research projects and media.
