Kings Felipe and Letizia received in audience the responsible for the centers that have been accredited "Severo Ochoa Excellence Center" or "María de Maeztu Excellence Unit" in the various calls for this initiative of the Ministry of research, Development and Innovation of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, which aims to promote research excellence in Spain in any field of science. Accompanied by the Secretary of State for Research, Development and Innovation, Carmen Vela, the attendants to the Palacio de la Zarzuela from the UPF were David Comas Martínez, Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS-UPF) and Xavier Serra Casals, Department of Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC-UPF).
The departments of Experimental and Health Sciences (DCEXS) and Information and Communication Technologies (DTIC) at UPF received accreditation Maria de Maeztu on 2015. The accreditation of "Severo Ochoa Excellence Center" or "María de Maeztu Excellence Unit" is intended to promote research activities developed in institutional and organizational specific environments and whose operation responds to a scientific community that works closely in the achievement of common goals, interaction among its members is facilitated, while such centers or units must demonstrate a high degree of openness and international cooperation.
