CEXS-UPF: Pompeu Fabra University runs almost 300 kilometers to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

News from CEXS-UPF

The athletes at UPF covered a total of 297.8 kilometers, after doing 744 laps, for 24 hours without interruption, in the athletics tracks of Can Dragó. They were ranked 12th in the standings, from a total of 28 participants in the team modality from 7 to 24 members. The runners of the University who took part in the test (who took turns to cover the 24-hour total) were: Juan López, Carlota Foucault, Albert Cuartero, Guillem Foucault, Jaume Pizano, Ignasi Ayala, Kevin Aguilar, Joaquín Prieto, Oliver Laband (all of them students, some from schools attached to UPF).

The rest of the participants were Marc Sanjaume, Pablo Pareja, Guillem Arias (members of teaching and researcher staff); and Gemma López, Julio Amores, Enric Cañada, Ivan Jiménez, Josep Gibert, Fernando Ruiz and Toni Llena, the latter linked to UB (members of the administration and services staff). The 24 hour-athletics, which reached this year its thirteenth edition, will allocate a total collection of 9,143.6 euros to make a donation to the Miquel Valls Foundation, a non-profit institution that works to improve the quality of life of people affected by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The participation of the UPF in the test has involved a contribution of 300 euros (240 of the inscription and 60 of the sale of T-shirts).

Altogether, nearly 1,000 athletes participated in this solidarity initiative, which this year was dedicated to Zeno, a corridor affected by the ALS and linked to the organization Corredors.cat, and that passed away this year 2016.
