IMIM: The brain change its global dynamic several hours before an epileptic crisis

News from IMIM

A study developed between the Cognition and Brain Center (CBC), directed by Gustavo Deco, ICREA research professor at the DTIC-UPF, and Rodrigo Rocamora, from the IMIM and UPF, has managed to characterize through mathematical analysis the changes that the brain experiences before suffering an epileptic seizure. "The results obtained allow to effectively changing the diagnostic and therapeutic paradigm that has been traditionally had in epilepsy. If we manage to detect these changes described through portable systems, we will be able to advance in crisis prediction systems” explains Rocamora.

The work, led by researcher Adrià Tauste, researcher at the BarcelonaBeta Brain Center and carried out at the CBC, was published in the journal PloS Biology. -CS/PRBB
