IMIM: Alzheimer's and children, a reverse evolutionary pattern

News from IMIM-Hospital del Mar

Researchers at the Hospital del Mar and IMIM have certified that the loss of capacity of Alzheimer's patients comes from a reverse pattern than that followed by children to acquire new knowledge and skills.

This finding improves understanding of the evolutionary patterns of disease. The study, published in the Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, involved comparing 181 children aged 4 to 12 and 148 adults with varying levels of dementia: cognitively normal, mild cognitive impairment, and a moderate-severe level of Alzheimer's disease.
