UPF: Advances for the production of taxol for cancer treatment


The work was published in the Journal of Plant Physiology.


A new study shows the effects of coronatina on the increased production of taxol in Taxus cells cultured in the laboratory.

Taxus cell cultures and the improvement of the biotechnological production of taxol and its derivatives is of great interest, since these are useful as anti-cancer compounds.

The study was conducted by an interuniversity research group in Plant Biotechnology and Natural Products Production (UPF, UB and Ghent University). Elizabeth Moyano, researcher and professor at the Department of Experimental Sciences and Health (CEXS-UPF) participated in the study.
