IMIM: Key work to progress in the fight against kidney and bladder cancer

News from IMIM

The Catalan oncologist Joaquim Bellmunt has led a team of international researchers in the analysis and review of the new generation of cancer therapies for renal and urothelial bladder, two of the most difficult cancers to treat.

The oncologist is the head of cancer research at the Genitourinary Oncology Service of the Hospital del Mar and the IMIM (Hospital del Mar Research Institute Medical) and director of the Bladder Cancer Center at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute (Harvard University).

He has coordinated a study that analyzes the new generation of cancer therapies developed with new techniques of genetic analysis. The article was published in Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology and reviews all articles published on the subject since 2000. The discovery of new genes involved in tumor development, improvements in the classification of tumors and the understanding the mechanisms of resistance to treatment are some of the achievements of recent years.
