Arnau Busquets, a researcher linked to the Neuropharmacology Laboratory headed by professor Rafael Maldonado, of the UPF Department of Experimental and Health Sciences (CEXS), has been awarded the Prize of the Spanish Royal Academy of Doctors in the Life and Health Sciences category, ex aequo 2014 for his thesis: Targeting the endocannabinoid system for Therapeutic Purposes, which he defended on July 4, 2013 and which was supervised by professors Andres Ozaita and Rafael Maldonado.
The award ceremony took place on 15 October 2014, during the opening ceremony of the academic year that took place at 6:15 pm in the Auditorium of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Spanish Government (C/San Bernardo, 49, Madrid).
Busquets made a significant contribution in his doctoral thesis: the identification of a novel therapeutic target for treatment of fragile X syndrome. This breakthrough was published in Nature Medicine in March 2013, and for this tsudy he was awarded with the Biogen Idec Foundation Award for Young Researchers 2013, in the Neurology category.
