Border patrol: membrane homeostasis by ubiquitin dependent proteolysis

Sessions científiques, CRG Group Leader Seminars

Pedro Carvalho

Organelle Biogenesis and Homeostasis Group, Cell and Developmental Biology Programme, CRG

Pedro Carvalho obtained his PhD for work on regulation of microtubule dynamics and chromosome segregation carried out with David Pellman at Dana Farber Cancer Institute (Boston, USA). During his postdoctoral training in the laboratory of Tom Rapoport at Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), Pedro became interested in the mechanisms by which cells detect and eliminate aberrant misfolded proteins. In the summer of 2010, he moved to Barcelona to start his own group at CRG. Here, he investigates the mechanisms by which different functions of the endoplasmic reticulum, such as the biogenesis of secreted proteins and lipid biosynthesis, are regulated. His talk will focus on recent progress made by the lab on this topic.
