Un cop finalitzades les obres d’arranjament del local del PRBB situat a la plaça Darwin, la Fundació Pasqual Maragall per a la Recerca sobre l’Alzheimer s’hi trasllada aquesta setmana, iniciant així una nova etapa com un centre més del PRBB.

La Fundació Pasqual Maragall va néixer fa un any, a iniciativa de l’ex-president i amb la finalitat d’impulsar un projecte científic d’excel•lència en l’àmbit de l’Alzheimer i les malalties neurodegeneratives. Tal com ell mateix va afirmar des de l’Hospital de Sant Pau, el 20 d’octubre de 2007, quan va fer públic que li havien diagnosticat un principi d’Alzheimer: “vull ajudar a derrotar aquesta malaltia, personalment i col•lectivament, enlloc està escrit que sigui invencible”.

La Fundació Pasqual Maragall, dirigida pel Dr. Jordi Camí qui compagina aquesta activitat amb la direcció del PRBB, treballa en la posada en marxa d’un projecte científic molt ambiciós, enfocat a l’àmbit de la neurodegeneració i l’envelliment i suportat majoritàriament pel sector privat. El pla és aixecar un nou centre de recerca amb projectes de caire poc convencional, centre que es desplegaria juntament amb altres recursos de valorització/transferència, assistencials i diagnòstics i amb una plataforma tecnològica de neuroimatge. En estrenar el nou local, el president Maragall ha afirmat: “estem molt agraïts per l’acollida que ens ha dispensat el PRBB. No se m’acut un emplaçament millor des d’on fer realitat la nostra aposta per la ciència, la gent jove i els projectes innovadors i agosarats.”


The Pasqual Maragall Foundation joins the PRBB

Now that the works at the PRBB offices at the Darwin square have finished, the “Pasqual Maragall Foundation for Alzheimer Research” will move in this week, starting a new period as an additional centre at the PRBB.

The Pasqual Maragall Foundation was born a year ago by initiative of the ex-president of the Catalan government, with the aim of fostering a scientific project of excellence in the field of Alzheimer and neurodegenerative diseases. He had declared at the Hospital de Sant Pau in October 20, 2007, when it was made public that he was diagnosed with Alzheimer: “I want to help defeating this disease, both personally and collectively; it is nowhere written that it is invincible”.

The Pasqual Maragall Foundation is directed by Jordi Camí, who combines this activity with that of the Director of the PRBB. He is working to set up a very ambitious scientific project, focused on neurodegeneration and ageing, which will be supported mostly by the private sector. The plan is to build a new research centre for unconventional projects, which would also include other resources such as technology transfer, a diagnostic unit, a residence and a neuroimaging platform. When opening the new offices, president Maragall said: “We are very grateful for the welcome that PRBB has given us. I cannot think of a better location from where to make a reality our bet for science, young people and daring innovative projects.”
